The Goal
The Cottesloe Redevelopment sought to transform the historic Wearne site into a contemporary residential and seniors living precinct while respecting its heritage significance and coastal setting. The goal was to balance conservation, community expectations and modern living needs, creating a place that responds to local character while meeting growing demand for high-quality seniors accommodation in Perth’s western suburbs.
Honouring a historic coastal site while creating a contemporary place to live, connect and age well.
Our Role
TBB provided statutory planning and community engagement services to support Curtin Heritage Living’s redevelopment of the former Wearne site into what is now Marine Views Cottesloe.
Our role included preparing and coordinating key planning approvals, including structure planning, masterplanning and the development application, while navigating complex heritage and statutory requirements.
We worked closely with the Town of Cottesloe and the Heritage Council of Western Australia to ensure heritage values, view corridors and the site’s curtilage were carefully protected and integrated into the final design.
Community engagement was central to the project’s success. We led a collaborative, design-led engagement process alongside project partners including Hames Sharley, ensuring community values informed the project’s evolution and final outcome.
The Outcome
Through careful planning, heritage integration and meaningful community engagement, the project achieved strong alignment with regulatory requirements and local expectations. Marine Views Cottesloe opened in late 2021 and is now recognised as a benchmark for seniors living and heritage-led redevelopment in Western Australia.
The project has received significant industry recognition for its contribution to urban development, heritage integration and seniors living outcomes, reinforcing its positive impact for residents, the local community and the wider Cottesloe area.
