Reconnect Perth’s CBD and Northbridge for the first time in more than a century by transforming former transport infrastructure into a lively, integrated city precinct. The vision was to create a place that supports movement, activity and identity—linking people, culture and public space at the heart of the city.

Our Role
TBB led the planning and visioning for Perth City Link, shaping a bold regeneration project with lasting city-wide impact. Appointed as lead planners, we guided the master planning process and worked closely with design teams and delivery agencies to establish a clear, place-led framework for the precinct.
Our role focused on translating a complex site—spanning rail lines, bus infrastructure and utilities—into a connected and people-centred place. Through integrated planning, scenario testing and ongoing ‘vision keeping’, we helped ensure development above and around the infrastructure delivered a cohesive urban experience and a new city destination.
The Outcome
Perth City Link has fundamentally changed how the city centre functions and feels. What was once a barrier is now a connected urban precinct that brings together public spaces, commercial development, cultural infrastructure and new pedestrian links between the CBD and Northbridge.
The project paved the way for landmark destinations including Perth Arena, Kings Square, the underground Busport and Yagan Square—now one of Perth’s most significant public places. These spaces support everyday activity, events and cultural expression, recognising the site’s importance to the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Perth City Link stands as a defining example of city-shaping planning, demonstrating the power of integrated design to reconnect cities and create enduring public value.
