The Goal
The Strategy was developed to guide how the Town of Cambridge can grow and change over the next 10–15 years while retaining its distinctive character and natural setting. The focus was on managing population growth in a way that supports neighbourhoods, local centres and public transport, without losing what makes Cambridge a desirable place to live and work.
Our Role
Working alongside the Town of Cambridge and a multidisciplinary consultant team, TBB Planning supported the preparation of a comprehensive Local Planning Strategy. Our role focused on bringing together research, engagement and policy into a clear and accessible framework.
Community engagement was central to the process. Surveys, workshops, open days and stakeholder meetings helped shape the Strategy and ensured local voices were reflected. The approach balanced development potential with infrastructure capacity, transport access and the hierarchy of centres across the Town.
A shared plan for growth that respects character, community and place.
The Outcome
The Town of Cambridge Local Planning Strategy was endorsed by the Western Australian Planning Commission in 2020 and now provides a clear framework to guide planning decisions across the municipality. The Strategy sets out where change is appropriate, how growth can be supported around transport nodes, and how neighbourhood character and public realm quality can be maintained.
For the Town, the Strategy provides confidence and clarity when assessing development and planning for infrastructure. For the community, it offers transparency about how Cambridge may evolve over time, ensuring growth is managed thoughtfully, consistently and in line with local values.
