Lex has been working to shape Western Australia’s planning landscape for more than forty-five years, and he remains just as motivated today as when he first started. Known for his calm leadership and deep strategic insight, Lex is one of the state’s most respected practitioners, valued by clients and government alike for his ability to find clear pathways through the most complex planning challenges.
A natural collaborator and multi-disciplinary team leader, Lex spends much of his time guiding major city-shaping projects and advocating for clients at the highest levels of government. His extensive experience means he instinctively understands how planning decisions are made, how policy is interpreted and how to achieve successful and meaningful outcomes. His long-term leadership role in the Port Coogee project is a testament to this. Lex personally authored the original Metropolitan Region Scheme amendment that set the project in motion and continues to guide its planning more than two decades later.
Lex joined TBB in 1996, became a Partner in 1997 and, after 20 years as Managing Director, transitioned to the role of Practice Fellow in 2023. Over his career, he has led major residential, coastal, industrial and regional projects across WA, always bringing a steady, thoughtful and solutions-focused approach. He is a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia, serves on the National Board of UDIA’s EnviroDevelopment program and the Curtin University Urban and Regional Planning Program Advisory Committee. Lex also supports formal mentoring programs through PIA and UDIA.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to planning and public benefit in Western Australia, Lex was recently awarded the W.E. Bold Medal by the Planning Institute of Australia — one of the profession’s highest honours.
